Founded on Valentine’s Day in 1922 by Walter G. Winne, and Horace F. Banta, Winne Banta Basralian & Kahn, P.C. is one of the oldest law firms in New Jersey and one of the largest full-service firms in Bergen County.

Its founding partners were two of the most prominent members of the legal community in their time. In 1922, Walter Winne was appointed United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, the chief federal law enforcement officer in the state, by President Warren Harding. He subsequently served as a delegate to the 1947 Constitutional Convention for the State of New Jersey. Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Winne also served on the board responsible for overseeing the formation of what is now the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.

Horace Banta served as a Supreme Court Commissioner and Special Master in the Chancery Division of the Courts. He was city attorney for Hackensack and was appointed to, and served for many years, as Bergen County Adjuster and Chairman of the Bergen County Welfare Board. Additionally, he was President of the Bergen Bar Association. Mr. Banta also served on the boards of various local civic and charitable organizations throughout his career. He imparted his commitment to community service to his colleagues and successors in the firm.

Winne Banta’s distinguished founders left a lasting legacy. Their dedication, perseverance and exemplary service to the public and their clients reverberates today among the shareholders, associates and staff of Winne Banta, in our commitment and dedication to achieving sound and efficient results for our clients, while serving the greater community.
